Who We Are

My family and I started the Hawaii Monarch Research Project to learn if monarch butterflies fly between the Hawaiian islands.

While writing a report for school, I asked if monarchs flew between the islands. No one seemed to know. With the help of my family, I emailed several entomologists. Each had a different response, from “probably not” to “there is a very high chance.” Since no one knew for sure, we started the Hawaii Monarch Research Project to find out.

With support from Monarch Watch, Dr. Chip Taylor, Dr. David James, Dr. Daniel Rubinoff, Vicki Mion, and Monarch Butterfly Friends Hawaii, we began tagging monarch butterflies in 2023. Thank you for participating in this important research.
